Week 6: Tagging,Folksonomies & Technorati

Thing 13 Learned about tagging and discovered Del.icio.us.

Thing 14 Technorati viewed a few blog posts on Technorati.

Thing 15 Read a few perspectives on Web 2.0, Library 2.0 and the future of libraries. In "Row Your Own Library Boat Into the Web 2.0 Environment," Rick Anderson talks bout the preparedness of libraries to meet the challenges of the future. While I do agree with him to a point, I do see libraries (this system in particular) moving closer to meeting patron needs in the future. Services such as:
-Netlibrary and Overdrive provide customers with off site availability to books and music.
-Web-catalogs provide access to library collections and give options for users to reserve materials and have them available at libraries close to them.
-journal articles are now available on-line. And customers can now register (temporarily) for a library card to access services on-line.
-we are slowly beginning to "float" collections for patron use of aaccess.
-Libraries 2.0 allow librarians to learn and play on-line. And services are available for customers to access testing sites from home computers.

These are just a few of the ways libraries are beginning to address the ways patrons use libraries. Patrons do still need and hopefully want to come into libraries for services such as author visits, storytimes and other community based activities.
